Epsode 4: Floodwater barbel / River Severn / Where to fish, venue focus

In this week’s blog entry I’m taking advantage of the flooded River Severn by doing some barbel fishing. There are a number of sessions featured and fish on the bank. Even though the going was tough I managed to catch.

Thinking of fishing the Severn? Well, I share one of my favourite stretches and how you can fish there for yourself. As always, nature is included with some hoopoe footage.

If you like this blog entry, why not share it on your own social media platform? Thanks if you do. If you’re on Facebook, here’s mine: CLICK HERE.

Episode 3: Black Country canal / Chub / Bream / Focus on tackle, bait and rig

In episode three I’m fishing a Black Country canal, with chub as the target. I catch a few along the way and also bream as well. There’s also a look at tackle, bait and rig. I'm using a hair-rig and boilie approach to eliminate smaller fish.

As always, lots of nature represented and this time round fungi features. There's a great natural world out there and angling is the perfect platform from which to engage with it.

The trip down memory lane takes me back to my match fishing days with Hurst Hill Labour Club, where in 1977 I was Junior Angler of The Year.

Episode 2: Barbel / Fishing a flooded River Severn / A look at my bait cupboard / Why do barbel anglers like flooded rivers?

This week’s blog entry is very specific as it focuses on floodwater barbel fishing on the middle Severn. Many anglers are deterred by extra water, but as you can see in the video there’s no need to be. The question ‘Why do barbel anglers like flooded rivers?’ is also answered.

I also open up my bait cupboard to the camera and take a trip down memory lane as I remember my very first double-figure barbel and why the memory keeps coming back. There’s also a very important website highlighted with essential information for river anglers.

As well as a keen angler I’m also passionate about British nature and I take you on a tour of my local birding patch, Turls Hill in Sedgley.

Episode 1: Perch / Canal fishing / Dropshotting

Welcome to episode one as my blog entry switches to a longer, video-only format. I hope you enjoy it. If you do, why not share it. Thanks.

As always, I’m targeting a specific species and to kick off the New Year, it’s my favourite, the perch. Mostly on the Staffs/Worcs Canal, there’s fish action and tips including cold water perch bait and how to avoid deep-hooked fish.

I employ several methods, hence the title of the blog, including the popular drop-shotting, with several minutes of bank-side activity featuring. In addition there’s the usual nature footage plus a thought for the week.
